In this era of advanced technology and space sciences, NASA, an American space agency has undoubtedly emerged as a leading agency in the world. NASA is known for it's renowned advancements in space technologies. It's advancing Heliophysics and Robotic spacecraft missions have paved the way of retaining it's top position for upcoming years.
But who do you think is all behind this success story of NASA. Americans ... ?? No!! It's all Indians. Yes, you will be shocked to know that 4 out of 10 or about 36% of the total scientists in NASA are Indians.
There are hundreds of profound scientists working in NASA who has Indian origin. And definitely NASA would have been nothing without their contributions. And here is a list of top 10 great Indian scientists that holds top positions in NASA.
In the year 1988, she started w o r k i n g i n NASA, specifically in the Ames Research Centre. She was the Overset Methods, Inc. Vice President. One of her excellent works was the research on concepts of vertical/short takeoff and landing. Unfortunately, she is no more alive.
2) Ashwin R Vasavada
He is the award winning Indian scientist who is currently working in NASA. He is posted as deputy project scientist in the jet propulsion Laboratory of NASA, California.
Work: Research about the weathers of some planets like Mars, Jupiter's and Saturn.
3) Anita SenGupta
She is the Indian American woman, an aerospace engineer by profession.
Currently she is the Project manager in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA.
Work: Contributed a lot in the success of "Curiosity Rover" who managed to go on the surface of the planet Mara.
He is one of those NASA scientists who became candidates for IEEE Pioneer Award .
He is currently the Chief Scientist in the Exploration Technology of NASA Ames Research Centre, California.
He shines in the field of Nanotechnology.
5) Sunita Williams
She is currently the Deputy chief of the Astronaut office in NASA.
6) Dr. Kamlesh Kulla
Currently he is posted in Johnson Space Center (JSC).
Work: Expert in Space and Earth Sciences.
7) Amitabha Ghosh
In 1997, he was the winner of NASA Mars Pathfinder Achievement Award. He was hounoured with another award in 2004, NASA Mars Exploration Rover Achievement Award. These awards are due to his great contributions in studying the planet Mars.
8) Sharmila Bhattacharya
She has a doctor's degree in Molecular biology from the prestigious Princeton University. Initially, she was a plain scientist who worked in an American defense company. After that , she got to work in Silicon Valley, California in NASA Ames Research Centre.
9) Dr. Suresh Kulkarni
This genius man worked in NASA for several years. He was very excellent in making rocket components, and these rockets are the ones that will be used in exploring the outer space.
55 of the rockets launched by NASA were products of his excellent works.
10) Dr. Madhulika Guhathapurta
